Öz
Yapısalcı inşacı olarak tanınan Fransız sosyolog Pierre Bourdieu, teorik sosyolojiye önemli katkılarda bulunmuş ve yaptığı analizlerle bazı kavramları yeniden yorumlamıştır. En özgün katkılarından biri habitus, alan, sermaye ve strateji gibi kavramların yeniden üretilmesiyle ilgilidir. Bourdieu, derin bir felsefi arka plana sahip bu kavramsallaştırma çabalarıyla eleştirel ve yorumsal sosyolojide özgün bir yer edinmiştir. Pierre Bourdieu’nün üniversite ve akademik yapıyı geniş bir şekilde ele aldığı Homo Academicus, Türkçe’ye 2021 yılında İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi Yayınları arasında kazandırılmıştır. Akademik dünyayı “içeriden” bir bakış açısıyla kritik eden Bourdieu, kitabında üniversiteyi tahakkümcü anlayışların inşa edildiği bir yer olarak değerlendirmenin yanı sıra akademisyenleri de içinden geldikleri toplumsal sınıf, sermaye birikimi ve iktidar mücadelesi yönüyle irdelemektedir. Kitap akademinin kendi iç hiyerarşisinden, fakülteler çatışmasına, kadrolaşma mücadelesinden entelektüel sermaye birikiminin nitelik sorununa kadar üniversiteye dair temel meselelere ışık tutmaktadır.

Homo Academicus in Relationship to Power and Freedom
Abstract
French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, known as a structuralist constructivist, made important contributions to theoretical sociology and reinterpreted some concepts with his analyzes. One of his most original contributions concerns the reproduction
of concepts such as habitus, space, capital and strategy. Bourdieu has a unique place in critical and interpretive sociology with these conceptualization efforts with a deep philosophical background. Homo Academicus, in which Pierre Bourdieu has extensively discussed the university and academic structure, was introduced into Turkish in 2021 by Istanbul Bilgi University Press. Criticizing the academic world from an “insider” perspective, Bourdieu, in his book, evaluates the university as a place where dominating understandings are built, as well as examines academics in terms of the social class they come from, capital accumulation and power struggle. The book sheds light on the basic issues of the university, from the internal hierarchy of the academy to the conflict of faculties, from the struggle for staffing to the quality problem of intellectual capital accumulation.
